This watch (with radial dial) belonged officially to NASA and it was issued to Furrer during ESA training activities in Europe (guided by NASA). Prepare yourself, he kept the watch and years later it popped up on my dining room table because (then) owner didn't know what it really was. We made a consultation and brought this watch to obtain me check out it.Since I'd not witnessed anything like this before, I needed to dive involved with it and needed the help of Omega. It appeared to be on the list of 56 NASA issued replica watches that were delivered by Omega in 1978. This delivery appeared as the result of the new tender by NASA for replica watches to be used with the Space Shuttle program which was on the verge of start. This particular Speedmaster Professional radial dial model has also been called Project Alaska III (1978). All projects that Omega did for NASA were called "Alaska". It is confusing sometimes since several people think of it as the white dial Speedmaster that Omega did around 1969/1970 (Alaska Project I, also for NASA) and also the later (2008) modern white dial re-edition (here).The watch we've to put you today, the 1978 Omega Speedmaster Professional radial dial, wasn't issued to NASA since it became a prototype.
